Auto Top-Up

Never run out of credits mid-workflow. Auto top-up automatically charges your default payment method when your balance drops below a threshold you set.

How It Works

  1. You set a threshold and a top-up amount
  2. The system periodically checks your balance
  3. When your balance drops below the threshold, your default payment method is charged the top-up amount
  4. Credits are added to your account and you receive an email confirmation

If the charge fails (e.g. expired card), you'll receive an email notification so you can update your payment method.

Protection

To prevent over-charging, auto top-up will charge your account at most once per minute. Even if multiple checks detect a low balance in quick succession, only one charge is attempted.

Setting Up Auto Top-Up

1. Enable auto top-up

Go to Cost Management in the dashboard and toggle on Auto Top-Up.

If you don't have a default payment method on file, you'll be redirected to the Stripe billing portal to set one up. Once configured, you need to configure:

  1. A default payment method
  2. Your billing address

2. Configure your settings

Once a payment method is in place, set:

  • Threshold: The balance that triggers a top-up. For example, $5 means you'll be charged whenever your balance drops below.
  • Amount: How much to add each time. For example, $25.

You can set the threshold to $0 if you only want to be charged when your balance is completely empty.

Managing Auto Top-Up

Once enabled, you can manage auto top-up directly from the Cost Management page:

  • Edit settings: Change your threshold or top-up amount at any time
  • Disable: Toggle auto top-up off. Your payment method stays on file so you can re-enable later without going through Stripe again

Email Notifications

You'll receive an email whenever:

  • A top-up succeeds: Includes the amount charged and your new balance
  • A top-up fails: Includes instructions to update your payment method or manually add credits

Troubleshooting

Auto top-up isn't triggering

Check that:

  1. Auto top-up is enabled (not toggled off)
  2. Your balance is actually below your threshold
  3. You have a valid default payment method in Stripe

I was charged but credits haven't appeared

Credits are added immediately after a successful charge. If they don't appear, try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, contact support@doubleword.ai.
